Holy Week in Seville

In Holy Week Seville's air is a blend of incense, candle wax and orange blossom. Penitents in pointed hoods form long lines of candlelight, and dozens of bearers walk blind beneath the platforms, carrying gold-laden, flower-covered sacred images slowly towards the cathedral. Suddenly someone on a balcony sings a mournful a cappella saeta and the whole street falls silent; it is the most moving religious spectacle in all of Spain.
