Northern Lights in Tromsø

Tromsø is called the "Gateway to the Arctic," its city sitting right beneath the ring where auroras most often appear. Once the sky clears, drive half an hour to the head of the Ersfjordbotn fjord, switch off your headlights, and watch green ribbons rise behind the ridge, twisting, splitting and bursting into a rain of light between snow peaks and water.
