Kandy Esala Perahera

Each year around the monsoon full moon, Sri Lanka's ancient capital of Kandy stages Asia's most dazzling religious procession for eleven consecutive nights. Elephants draped in lantern-lit robes, whip-crackers clearing the way, fire-spinning dancers and thousands of drummers together escort the casket holding the sacred tooth relic around the city.
