Oktoberfest

Every September, a field just south of Munich's city centre sprouts a dozen or so beer tents that each hold thousands of people. When the brass bands strike up Ein Prosit, the whole tent climbs onto the benches and raises its glasses together. It is the largest folk festival in the world, with 7.4 million visits in 2026, yet at heart it is still the Bavarians' own autumn carnival.
