Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain)

The colors of Rainbow Mountain do not float in the air; they lie in bands of rock across the Andean highlands. From the viewpoint, rust, ocher and gray-green strata stretch diagonally down the slope. High-altitude wind and shifting light change their contrast. Photographs can oversaturate the scene; at the mountain, thin air and wind are often just as vivid.
