Taroko Gorge

The Liwu River cuts through marble, polishing curves into cliffs and a deep gorge. Taroko’s impact has always come from the scale of the road pressed against high mountains. The 2024 earthquake and subsequent storms changed this familiar route, and several classic sites remain under restoration. Historical photographs preserve the scenery, but also remind travelers that past access does not mean a place is open today.
