Río Celeste
What makes Río Celeste special is not the waterfall itself but the El Teñidero confluence: after two apparently colourless streams merge, the water turns a milky sky blue and flows on through deep-green rainforest. Research shows this is caused by suspended aluminosilicate particles that clump and grow larger as acidity changes and scatter blue light, not by any pigment. Unlike Lake Tekapo, where glacial flour creates the blue-green, here you can see the exact point where the colour “begins.”
