Deadvlei is not a spooky cave but a white pan enclosed by tall red dunes. Dead camelthorn trees draw black lines across the bright ground; morning shadows divide red and orange into two fields. No artificial colors are needed for its spare composition. The real essentials are arriving early, walking slowly and carrying enough water.
