Badain Jaran Desert

Badain Jaran is not a single-color sea of sand. Lakes lie between immense dunes, their hues shaped by salinity and microbial communities while wind continually redraws the ridgelines. Around Miaohai Lake, the temple and shore form a striking scene; deeper in the desert, moving sand can sometimes make a low resonant sound. The distance and fragile water sources make this a journey for experienced local guides.
