La Tomatina

At noon on the last Wednesday of August, the main street of Buñol, a small town inland from Valencia, fills with 20,000 people. At the sound of a cannon, trucks tip tonnes of ripe tomatoes into the crowd, and the world's largest food fight begins. An hour later the street is a river of tomato juice and everyone is red beyond recognition; then fire hoses sweep through and the town is clean again.
