Kumano Kodo

The Kumano Kodo is less about conquering a summit than about the steady accumulation of stone steps, cedar woods and villages. The Nakahechi route climbs from Takijiri-oji, where small shrines and oji sites recall an old pilgrimage road to Kumano. Walk several days in a row or choose a shorter section, letting your own pace take shape.
