Jinju Namgang Yudeung Lantern Festival
In October, the Namgang River at Jinju fills with giant lanterns shaped like tigers, dragons, hanbok-clad ladies and Joseon generals, their reflections making a floating city of light on the water. The festival traces back to the 1592 Battle of Jinju Fortress in the Imjin War, and today draws over a million people to stroll the old fortress walls, cross the river of lights on a pontoon bridge and set a wish lantern afloat.
