Iceland Ring Road

Iceland’s Route 1, or Ring Road, runs about 1,322 kilometers and connects most of the country’s towns and coastal landscapes. The south brings waterfalls, glaciers and black-sand beaches; the eastern road bends around fjords, the north passes volcanic geothermal country and small fishing harbors, and the west leads back toward the capital. The best plan is not to race around the island, but to leave room for weather and spontaneous stops.
