Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway climbs on narrow gauge and zigzags from the lowlands at New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling, about 2,200 meters above sea level. The route passes Siliguri, forests and tea gardens, then Ghum and the Batasia Loop. It remains a working railway for local residents as well as a landmark of nineteenth-century mountain engineering.
